Getting the Balance Right

Getting the Balance right was funded by MS Ireland through the Pobal Dormant Accounts Flaghship Fund, and Tesco charity of the year. The project delivered physiotherapy programmes to nearly 2000 people living with MS over its two year course and Getting the Balance Right physiotherapy and physical activity programmes continue to be delivered by MS Ireland today.

What was unique about the programme was that it was tailored to ability and mobility levels and that treatments were delivered in the community.

Strand A concerned people who walked with at most a stick outdoors. They took part in 10 week programmes led by physiotherapists, fitness instructors or yoga instructors. You can download the physiotherapy programme and the findings here.

Strand B concerned people who needed bilateral support for walking. They used 2 sticks or crutches, or rollators or walkers. You can download the physiotherapy programme here.

We have published several papers from the trial and they can be accessed by clicking the links to the right (please note that some journals require a subscription)
