Technology and Rehabilitation

Access to physiotherapy services for people with MS is very limited and our survey of current practice showed that only 5% of people a similar amount of treatment to effective research trials. Through our work with MS Ireland we will both use our research data to lobby for improved services, and find alternative treatment options for people with MS.

The use of technology to augment physiotherapy is one option. To date we have investigated whether adding electrical stimluation or whole body vibration can ehance the effect of a home or community programme. Additionally we have investigated how activity monitors can be used to measure physical activity for people with MS.
